Celebrating Earth Day
The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970, and there have been global celebrations of our lovely and amazing home planet every year since. Since Novasutras is always about celebrating agaya and ubuntu, Earth Day is the perfect day for our movement to come together, set our goals and priorities, and draw our broader communities into discussions of how best to honor agaya and ubuntu.

It’s also a good idea to search for local events. Many cities and campuses host free Earth Day festivals for the public, with live music, children’s activities, and tons of great information about getting involved locally.
While we should honor the Earth every day, it’s good to have this specific date to get together. Let us know about your Earth Day plans, your experiences, or any news you want to share in the comments below.
I’ve participated in many Earth Day and Earth Week celebrations, and helped organize more than a few. This year, I’ll be in the local March for Science and then I’ll be helping to host a table for the Climate Change working group of Santa Cruz Indivisible at the Santa Cruz Earth Day celebration on Saturday 21 April – https://scearthday.org/
I’ve posted some ready-made info sheets with easy steps individuals could take to help solve the climate crisis. See https://perplexedprimate.org/2018/04/20/drawdown-tips-for-earth-day/
