August 7th 2019 Cross-Quarter Video

On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Lionel, Lisa and Ohmar joined Michelle online to celebrate the Cross-Quarter – the midpoint between the June solstice the September equinox. Michelle explained the Novasutras practice of meditating at the moment of each Octal point of the year (the Solstices, Equinoxes and Cross-Quarters in Earth’s orbit), then Called the Corners and led a guided meditation through the moment of the Cross-Quarter. This was followed by a discussion of our experiences of agaya and ubuntu during the meditation.

Celebrating the August Cross-Quarter

Rituals can have a very positive influence on personal well-being. They also help to bring communities together. Novasutras celebrates the Grand Octal of Equinoxes, Solstices and Cross-Quarters because these are globally-recognized moments in Earth’s orbit around the Sun.

In the northern hemisphere, early August is the Summer-Fall Cross-Quarter (associated with Lughnasad or Lammas, with celebrations emphasizing the first harvest of grains). In the Sourthern hemisphere this is the Winter-Spring Cross-Quarter (a.k.a. Imbolc), associated with new life.
